Halfway between Austin and Houston, Fayetteville is about an hour and a half drive from each of the cities.

This settlement of Fayetteville was established by three families of Austin's Old Three Hundred, and was originally a stagecoach stop for travelers. The town was named Fayetteville in 1844 and was later incorporated in 1882. There are many historic markers and plaques around the courthouse square.
